Powell GT Magnet Elementary and Communities in Schools 
A Dynamic 21st Century Partnership

Powell GT Magnet Elementary has begun a partnership with Communities in Schools of Wake County (CIS Wake) to create the “21st Century Learning Center at Powell”.  This program will  combine 21st Century skills with remedial instruction.  Instruction within the 21st Century Learning Center at Powell will be focused on “project based learning” which blends real life, critical-thinking based, teaching techniques with student learning. 

Our unique partnership with CIS Wake will provide Powell with more 21st Century technology tools for students (such as iPads, touch board technology, computers, etc) as well as tutors to help with instruction in our classrooms.  Our goal is to work toward full implementation of the program in every K-5 classroom by the end of this school year.  Over the next several months I will be posting video, text, and other information in this link showcasing our partnership with CIS Wake and the incredible work that students are doing within this program.   

CIS Wake is a non-profit organization that has been serving the youth of our community for many years.  The 21st Century Learning Center at Powell is the next phase of their new strategic plan.  CIS Wake is dedicated to providing academic support to underserved areas of our county and their organization has made a difference in the lives of many children.  Chas Miller, Principal of Powell, will be working closely with CIS Wake leadership while we implement this exciting new program and we look forward to fostering this partnership for years to come!
