How does Jude read with the students?
Jude is a very uniquely trained dog that went through many months of preparation in order to be certified to read with children. Jude and Caroline work one-on-one with students by sitting in a calm area, such as the media center or outside on a warm day, and students will read books as Jude listens attentively. Research supports the use of "therapy dogs" with children, especially during the early years as children begin to develop a love for reading. Jude is a non-judgmental listener who helps children develop confidence, fluency skills, and comprehension skills. Teachers will be routinely scheduling students to read with Jude throughout the year, but any student at Powell GT Magnet can read with our Tail Waggin' Tutor.
